Reader: Is Zoro's name inspired by the pirate "Francois L'Ollonois?" (In Japanese, "L'Ollonois" is pronounced "Lolonoa" or "Roronoa.")
Oda: That's right. I took his name from Francois L'Ollonois, said to be the most barbaric of the so-called "Pirates of the Caribbean." In addition, Morgan and Alvida are both named after pirates who actually existed.

Reader: How old are Luffy, Zoro, Nami, and Shanks?
Oda: I got a lot of letters asking this question. A whole lot. In terms of numbers, it's probably the most asked question. Currently, Luffy is 17, Zoro is 19, and Nami is 18. Shanks is currently missing, but i'll tell you how old he was 10 years ago. When he was at Luffy's village he was 27 years old.
